Common Gambling Myths, Debunked

Gambling folklore is older than casinos and stickier than math. The same six myths circulate at every table, in every chat, in every era — because each one exploits a real bug in human intuition. Here is each myth, why your brain believes it, and what the numbers actually say.

Myth 1: 'The number is due'

Red has hit eight times in a row, so black is due. This is the gambler's fallacy, and it fails because independent events have no memory. The wheel does not know what it did last spin; the probability of black on spin nine is exactly what it was on spin one.
